Eligibility Criteria – OSSSC Recruitment 2026

1. Forester

  • Candidates must have passed +2 Science from a recognized University / Institution / Board.

  • Must have basic computer knowledge.

  • Age Limit: Minimum 18 years and maximum 32 years as on 01 January 2025.

2. Forest Guard

  • Candidates must have passed High School Certificate Examination (10+) from a recognized Board / Institution.

  • Age Limit: 18 to 32 years as on 01 January 2025, as per rules.

3. Excise Constable

  • Candidates must have passed +2 Examination or equivalent conducted by the Council of Higher Secondary Education, Odisha, or any other recognized Board / Council.

  • Age Limit: Minimum 21 years and maximum 32 years as on 01 January 2025.

4. Odia Language Requirement

Candidates must be able to read, write, and speak Odia, and must have:

  • Passed Middle English School Examination with Odia as a language subject, or

  • Passed Matriculation with Odia as the medium of instruction in non-language subjects, or

  • Studied Odia as a language subject in Class VII or above, or

  • Passed Odia Test of M.E. School Standard conducted by the School & Mass Education Department.

5. Other Eligibility Conditions

  • Must be a citizen of India.

  • Must be of good character.

  • If married, the candidate must not have more than one spouse living, except where permitted under applicable personal laws.

6. Sportsperson

  • Candidates claiming reservation under Sportsperson category must possess a valid Sportsperson Identity Card issued by the Sports & Youth Services Department, Government of Odisha.

  • The card must be valid on the date of application submission and a scanned copy of the original card must be uploaded online.

7. Persons with Disabilities (PwDs)

  • Candidates must possess a Permanent Disability Certificate / UDID Card with not less than 40% disability in the relevant category and sub-category.

  • Required physical standards and functional classification must be met.

  • Disability details must be entered correctly in the online application form.

  • Benchmark PwDs will be allowed 20 minutes of compensatory time per hour in the Written Test and may avail a scribe with prior permission.

8. Ex-Servicemen

  • Candidates must possess Identity Card / Discharge Certificate / valid defence service documents.

  • Must submit an undertaking that no previous re-employment under Government of Odisha has been availed.

9. Excise Constable – Medical & Physical Standards

Candidates must not have:

  • Knock knee, bow legs, flat foot, varicose veins

  • Squint in eyes, poor vision, colour blindness

  • Inability to flex fingers properly or any other visible deformity

  • Any defect in speech or hearing

⚠️ Candidates with any disability or deformity are not eligible for the post of Excise Constable.

10. Forester / Forest Guard – PwD Exclusion

  • Persons with Disabilities are not eligible for the posts of Forester and Forest Guard,

  • Except for Leprosy Cured Persons and Acid Attack Victims, as per prescribed reservation rules.

Salary Structure – OSSSC Recruitment 2026

1. Forester

  • Pay Scale: ₹25,500 – ₹81,100

Age Limit (as on 01 January 2025)

Post-wise Age Limit

  • Forester: Minimum 18 years and maximum 32 years.

  • Forest Guard: 18 to 32 years, as specified for the post.

  • Excise Constable: Minimum 21 years and maximum 32 years.

Age Relaxation

  • SC / ST / SEBC / Women: Upper age relaxation of 5 years.

  • Persons with Disabilities (PwDs): Upper age relaxation of 10 years.

  • Ex-Servicemen: Upper age relaxation equivalent to the total period of defence service rendered, subject to:

    • Not having more than six months of service remaining on the last date of online application, and

    • Fulfilment of conditions relating to prior re-employment, if any.

Important Note

  • Candidates belonging to more than one category shall be eligible for only one age relaxation, whichever is most beneficial.

  • However, PwDs belonging to SC / ST / SEBC categories are entitled to cumulative age relaxation of 10 years over and above the normal category relaxation, as per the Odisha Civil Services (Fixation of Upper Age Limit) Rules, 1989.

Application / Examination Fee Details

  • As per the Odisha Payment of Recruitment Examination Fees and Refund Rules, 2025, candidates other than SC, ST and Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) are required to pay an Examination Fee of ₹500/-.

  • The examination fee must be paid online through Net Banking / Credit Card / Debit Card / UPI using the Payment Gateway during the online application process.

Fee Exemption

  • Candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST) and Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) categories are fully exempted from payment of the examination fee.

Fee Refund Policy

  • The ₹500/- examination fee paid by eligible candidates shall be refunded to those applicants who actually appear for the examination, after completion of the examination and verification of attendance records.

  • The refund amount will be credited to the same bank account or payment method used at the time of online registration.

  • Candidates are advised to use their own bank account or payment method to avoid any inconvenience during the refund process.

Important Notes

  • No refund shall be granted to candidates who do not appear in the examination for any reason whatsoever.

  • If the Confirmation Page is not generated after successful payment, the transaction will be cancelled automatically, and the paid amount will be refunded within 48 hours.

  • In such cases, candidates will be required to make a fresh payment to complete the online application process.

Selection Process – OSSSC Recruitment 2026

🔹 Stage-I: Written Examination

  • Total Marks: 100

  • Question Type: MCQ (Objective Type)

Negative Marking

  • 0.25 marks will be deducted for each wrong answer.

  • If more than one option is marked, it will be treated as a wrong answer.

  • No penalty for unattempted questions.

Minimum Qualifying Marks (Written Test)

  • 30% – SC / ST / PwD / Ex-Servicemen / Sportsperson

  • 35% – All other categories

Language of Question Paper

  • Question paper will be bilingual (Odia & English), except English and Odia subjects.

  • In case of any discrepancy in Odia version, the English version shall prevail.

CBRE Mode Information

  • Examination may be conducted in multiple shifts / multiple dates using different question sets.

  • Normalization formula will be applied to convert raw scores into normalized scores.

Test Centre Preference

  • Candidates may select up to three preferred districts for test centre.

  • The Commission may allot a different district depending on infrastructure and capacity.

Bonus Marks (Excise Constable Only)

  • NCC ‘B’ Certificate: +1 mark

  • NCC ‘C’ Certificate: +2 marks

🔹 Stage-II: Physical Test

Includes Physical Standard Measurement (PSM) and Physical Efficiency Test (PET) for all three posts.

  • Candidates shortlisted for Physical Test shall be not less than 3 times the number of vacancies, category-wise, subject to Commission’s discretion.

Physical Standard Measurement (PSM)

Forester / Forest Guard

  • Men (UR/SEBC/SC):

    • Height: 168 cm

    • Chest: 81 cm (unexpanded) with up to 5 cm expansion

  • Men (ST): Height 158 cm

  • Women (All Categories): Height 153 cm

  • Colour blindness is a disqualification.

Excise Constable

  • Men (UR/SEBC):

    • Height: 168 cm, Weight: 55 kg, Chest: 79–84 cm

  • Men (SC/ST):

    • Height: 163 cm, Weight: 50 kg, Chest: 76–81 cm

  • Women (UR/SEBC):

    • Height: 158 cm, Weight: 47.5 kg

  • Women (SC/ST):

    • Height: 153 cm, Weight: 45 kg

  • Minimum 5 cm difference between unexpanded and expanded chest is mandatory.

Physical Efficiency Test (PET)

Forester / Forest Guard

  • Male (All Categories): Walking 25 km in 4 hours

  • Female (All Categories): Walking 16 km in 4 hours

Excise Constable

  • Male:

    • Running 1.6 km in 7 minutes

    • Long Jump 3.66 m (3 attempts)

  • Female:

    • Running 1.6 km in 9 minutes

    • Long Jump 2.75 m (3 attempts)

⚠️ Failure to qualify in any PSM or PET event will lead to disqualification for the concerned post.

🔹 Step 2: Registration / Re-registration

New User Registration

  • Candidates who have not registered earlier for any OSSSC recruitment must click on “Apply Online” on the Home page.

  • Complete the Registration Form to generate a User ID.

Re-registration (Existing Users)

  • Candidates already registered for any other OSSSC post using a User ID must log in and select the “Re-registration” option under the Applicant Menu for this recruitment.

⚠️ Important: Mere Registration or Re-registration does not mean submission of the Online Application. Candidates must log in again, fill in all required details and submit the Online Application Form as per system instructions.

🔹 Important Instructions

  • Incomplete applications will be summarily rejected.

  • No Admission Letter will be issued to candidates who submit incomplete applications or do not fulfil the eligibility criteria.
